CODE OF CONDUCT
Fruit Share Adelaide (FSA) values the contribution of each member of our community who help us to work towards our vision of reducing fruit waste and providing support for charities and community food relief programs.
This Code of Conduct applies to all FSA registered volunteers (including the FSA Committee, fruit pickers, harvest coordinators, and area coordinators) as well as other parties who have registered an
interest in FSA activities (including fruit tree owners, garden maintenance businesses and community recipients of the harvested fruit).
To promote and uphold the reputation of FSA, this Code of Conduct shows the expected standard of behaviour which is to be observed by all parties during their involvement with FSA.
General Conduct
- Act with honesty and integrity and in accordance with any professional standards and/or governing laws and legislation that have application to the responsibilities you perform for or on behalf of FSA.
- Act in the best interests of others and set a positive example.
- Adhere to all FSA policies and procedures and support the decisions and directions of the FSA Committee and its delegated authority.
- Read, and understand, all information and instructions, and seek advice if in doubt.
- Ensure appropriate stewardship in the use of FSA resources, avoiding waste or extravagance and cooperating with measures to protect the environment.
- Apply skills, knowledge and experience with due diligence and care.
Conflict resolution
- Declare and manage any conflict between personal interest and volunteer roles. If such a matter arises, the person should formally disclose the interest, refrain from attempting to persuade or influence other persons participating in the decision and shall not cast any vote
on the matter.
- Listen carefully, and calmly address any issues with a willingness to find resolution. Follow reporting lines to facilitate the effective resolution of problems. Ensure that you are not exceeding the authority of your position.
Respect for others
- Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, honesty and sensitivity, taking care to protect the interests, rights, beliefs and welfare of others.
- Always act in a non-discriminatory manner towards all persons.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality and the privacy of personal information or contact details of others in accordance with the FSA Privacy Policy.
- Never steal, damage or destroy property belonging to FSA, or any other person or organisation involved in FSA activities.
- Never make false or misleading statements, bully, or act violently towards others.
Safety
- Be accountable for your own actions, including taking reasonable steps to ensure your own health, safety and welfare as well as that of others.
- Work within your ability.
- Report any safety hazard or hazardous practice you observe and any safety incidents.
- Assist in implementing emergency procedures as directed by FSA leadership.
- Never use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs while performing a role with FSA.
Working with vulnerable adults
- If deemed appropriate by the FSA Committee, have a current clearance to work with vulnerable people, and update as required under relevant legislation.
- Never use your position to take advantage of any vulnerable person.
- Report any actual or apparent breaches of law, policy, or this Code of Conduct, to the appropriate person in relation to the issue.
- Never take or share any photographs of children without the consent of the supervising person, the parents/carers, and where age-appropriate, the child.
